Today our economy has been described as knowledge based. A large percentage of the workforce spends most of their time sitting at a desk in front of a computer. Combine this with the sitting most of us do in our free time, either in the car or in front of the television, or at computers at home, and this means that we place a lot of stress on our lower backs. Our bodies are not designed to sit for 8 – 10 hours a day, and doing so can potentially cause injuries. By using ergonomic seating in workplaces, we can reduce the amount of stress on our bodies. This will keep us healthier and more productive, and reduce potential injuries.

Today what is advertised as an ergonomic desk chair does not look very unusual at all. Many new designs are easy to sit in and look and feel very comfortable. There are some key features that you should be looking for. These include:

Adjustable height that has enough range to suit all users

Ergonomic office seating comes in a wide variety of styles and prices to match any office needs. These can be a good addition to a well designed workstation, and allow workers to be more comfortable while working. When one thinks of ergonomic seating, one often thinks of the kneeling stools. These were the first type to get widely noticed. Today, this description is applied to many more modern chairs, which are available in a variety of styles. These provide varying amounts of support.

There are some considerations that one should take into account when looking for ergonomic office seating. You should choose a chair that is properly sized for the user. A good rule of thumb is that the height of the chair seat should be one quarter the height of the user. Of course, not everyone has the same body shape, so this rule is not necessarily hard and fast. A more convenient solution might be to get an adjustable chair that the user can set to the correct height. This is more useful for an office where multiple people might share a workstation, or for conference room chairs. Another feature you should be looking for is adjustable arm rests. Obviously arm rests are not suitable for all applications, but they are a good idea for anyone working at a computer.

ERGONOMIC CHAIR

If you are looking for the ultimate in ergonomic seating you need to check out the HumanScale chairs available at the Ergonomic Back Store. These have many advanced features that place them on a level above all other ergonomic solutions,

A HumanScale Freedom chair has been designed to support the human body through a range of positions and motions. They include many useful and advanced features, such as:

Adjusting recline

Synchronized armrests

Dynamic headrest

Today what is advertised as an ergonomic desk chair does not look very unusual at all. Many new designs are easy to sit in and look and feel very comfortable. There are some key features that you should be looking for. These include:

Adjustable height that has enough range to suit all users

Adjustable arm rests

Sturdy base (a five prong base is preferred)

Adjustable lumbar support

The reclining mechanism is far superior to those found in traditional office seating. These feature an intelligent counter-balance mechanism that supports the user throughout the full range of motion. There are no tension springs to adjust. And unlike most office seating, the angle between the seat and the seat back increases when reclining. This provides a more natural and for a more comfortable position.

The synchronized armrests are attached to the seat back rather than to the base to that they stay in the correct position during recline. They also move together. Having the different armrests adjusted to different heights can cause you to sit crookedly. The armrests on this seat can also be lowered out of the way so that you can move closer to the desk or table. The armrests feature a patented Technogel padding for increased comfort.

The dynamic headrest features contoured cushions that are position-sensitive. The headrest moves into place when you recline and pulls back when upright. It provides support through a full range of positions.

A HumanScale Liberty chair includes many of the same features except the headrest. Both designs offer superior comfort and support. If you spend all day sitting, it makes sense to have a quality seat. There is nothing better that one of these products. They will provide long lasting service that will not wear out like some seats. Bad sitting posture can lead to lower back pain and neck pain. Traditional seating is not sufficient to induce good posture, an seldom supplies enough support to the lumbar region of the spine. You need a quality seat. You need a HumanScale chair.

The human body was not designed to be sitting all day. Sitting creates stress on the lower spine. Traditional seating can lead to an increase in back problems and repetitive stress injuries. One solution is to become more active; to get up and stretch or walk during the day, and to go for walks or to the gym outside of the work day. Another is to arrange your workspace so that it places less strain on your body. A key component of a properly designed office space is an ergonomic chair. A traditional office seat can cause bad posture and lower back pain. If you have any sort of back injury, it can be exacerbated by this position.

When purchasing a seat you will want to look for such features as adjustable lumbar support and intelligent reclining positions that are more comfortable for anyone experiencing back pain. The ability to adjust your seating position is key to ensuring a comfortable seat, as obviously not everyone shares the same body type. Various choices include the ability to adjust the head rest, the arm rests and the height. Advanced models can even be self-adjusting.

When shopping for an ergonomic chair, perhaps the key feature that you need to look for is the ability to make adjustments. The height of the seat is the primary correction. It should be set so that the the angle at the knees is between 90 and 105 degrees with the feet flat on the ground. Another nice adjustment is the amount the seat sticks out from the back. The knees should extend 2 inches from the seat.

While armrests are important for anyone who is typing for extended periods, having the armrest set to the wrong height can be very uncomfortable. Adjustable armrests, with some amount of padding on them, are the base solution.

Another feature that is desirable to prevent injury is the stability. The seat should not be prone to tipping over, and if on casters should roll smoothly but not uncontrollably. The prefered base for a wheeled office seat is a five pronged one.

At the Ergonomic Back Store, we carry a full range of office furniture that meet all standards of design. Our top of the line Humanscale furniture offers the ultimate in workspace comfort. The productivity of you and your employees can only be decreased by uncomfortable working conditions. And lower back pain is a major cause of time off work for millions of Americans. An investment in quality office furnishings can ensure that your team works to their peak efficiency.

Ergonomic seating comes in a wide variety of styles and prices to match any office needs. These can be a good addition to a well designed workstation, and allow workers to be more comfortable while working. When one thinks of ergonomic seating, one often thinks of the kneeling stools. These were the first type to get widely noticed. They work by manipulating your sitting position so that your body arrangement is more natural. A kneeling stool is a well-known solution for back pain. By causing your hips to slide forward of the usually sitting position, the kneeling stool induces you to sit up straight and relieves the strain on your back muscles

There are some considerations that one should take into account when looking for ergonomic seating. By choosing adjustable armrests, you allow them to be set to the correct height for whoever is sitting in the chair.

It is also important to remember that not everyone has the same requirements for their chair. A secretary will have different needs than a dentist, and a factory foreman will require a completely different chair than either. The chair needs to be selected for both the user and the application. At the Ergonomic Back Store we have chairs suitable for a wide range of uses.

Ergonomic refers to equipment that has been designed to be easier for human use. It is the study of how we operate in a working environment. Many jobs today involve repetitive or continous motion or positions. These can range from the worker on the assembly line to the office staff who spend all day typing at a computer. The office worker can often receive unexpected repetitive stress injuries, as they do not always realize that their comfortable job could cause them to injure their back or joints.

Ergonomic office equipment is designed to reduce the potential for injury caused by repetitive or awkward positioning. It can consist of everything from chairs that support the back properly, to keyboards and keyboard trays that prevent carpal tunnel syndrome, or to lighting that is easier on the eyes by reducing glare.

The first piece of furniture that gained recognition in this field is the kneeling stool. These put the users in a kneeling position that shifted the hips forward. By doing so, they reduced the stress on the lower spine. This allows people to sit for prolonged periods without damaging their back.

The design of the kneeling stool arose in Norway in the 1970’s. It appeared in North America in the next decade, and new and more precise developments have been coming out in these items of furniture and others. By increasing the angle between the thigh and the back, they encourage better posture and reduce strain on the muscles of the lower back. These pieces of furniture can appear odd or confusing, but at the end of the day, the result will be a healthier spine and a comfortable back.

Many office chairs are now considered ergonomic. However, they still generally do not prevent slouching, which can lead to bad posture and back pain. While many people think they already sit with proper posture, a lot of seats actually are more comfortable to slouch or slump in than to sit properly in. As well, a long day in a chair can cause people to stop paying attention to sitting properly. A well designed chair or other seat will encourage good posture and lead to a stronger back, which will allow people to work more efficiently and reduce the need for days off work due to lower back injuries.

Many jobs nowadays require a lot of sitting and standing in one place, as well as a lot of repeated motions, such as typing at a computer. This can cause unexpected injuries to office workers, who do not always realize that their comfortable job could cause them to injure their back or joints. The first piece of furniture that gained recognition in this field is the ergonomic stool. These put the users in a kneeling position that shifted the hips forward. By doing so, they reduced the stress on the lower spine. This allows people to sit for prolonged periods without damaging their back.

The design of the kneeling ergonomic stool arose in Norway in the 1970’s.

When you visit www.ergoback.com, or www.bonanzle.com/booths/ErgoBack1 be sure to check out our wide selection of ergonomic seating. From chairs to more exotic seating arrangements, we have the solutions for your office design. Look through our catalog for other products to help make your workplace a healthier place.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is perhaps the best known of the repetitive stress injuries. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve in the wrist compresses, resulting in pain and weakness in the hands. It can be caused by repetitive and awkward positioning of the wrists. Working at a computer has been shown to cause carpal tunnel syndrome. This is because the wrists are often held at an awkward angle for a prolonged period of time during typing. Repetitive stress injuries can also occur, from repeated movements and twists of the wrists during typing. Even the smallest movements can cause strain over a period of time.

Unfortunately for many of us our job consists of working at the computer for long periods of time. However, there are some solutons that one can use to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. The most effective one is to obtain an ergonomic keyboard. There are several styles of the ergonomic keyboard available on the market today. Microsoft produces a popular design that arranges the keys in a v shape in order to keep the wrists straight.

More exotic designs can involve curved surfaces in all three dimensions. There are devices that resemble a ball with a qwerty style layout wrapped around it. Another design arranged the rows of keys into a trough.

By keeping the wrists straight during typing, one can reduce the strain that causes carpal tunnel syndrome. This restricts movement to the fingers, and causes the hands to do less work. This is of great benefit to anyone wanting to maintain a high level of productivity. It also reduces the need for the many creams and other products which are marketed to sooth aching wrists and joints from a day of work. Working in an office should be a safe place to work.

It can take some time to get used to an ergonomic keyboard. At first, it may not seem natural to use one of these new designs. This may temporarily lower productivity. However, after a period of time, you will find that you are able to continue working comfortably at it for longer than you would be able to at a traditional layout.

Another solution than can reduce carpal tunnel syndrome is to take a break from typing at regular intervals and do some light stretching exercises for the wrists. By moving your wrists through their full range of motion you can relieve the pressure on the median nerve. You can also use an exercise ball or wrist strengthener to work the muscles of the wrist.

Mice have become an integral part of all desktop computers. Many commonly used software programs, especially web browsers, make extensive use of mice as a primary means of data input. This has lead to many people suffering from repetitive stress injuries caused by the unnatural positioning of the wrist while using these devices. The solution is to use an ergonomic mouse that is designed to be used with a more natural wrist and hand position. These encourage the user to move their arm, rather than just twisting or turning the wrist, avoiding repetitive stress injuries.

There are many designs for an ergonomic mouse on the market today. These include simple variations of the traditional design that do not cramp the hand or require the wrist to be bent at quite as awkward and angle. They also feature buttons in more natural locations, so that your hand doesn’t need to scrunch up in order to operate them.

More exotic designs include the vertical design. At first glance, this appears to resemble a joystick. However, it works like all other optical mice. It has the advantage of twisting the arm so that the palm of the hand faces inwards, not down. This reduces the stress on the forearm, which can lead to sore and tired muscles. With the vertical design, you are using the larger muscles of the upper arm to move and support your forearm.

Another device that can be used to replace the mice in your office is the track ball. Many people find these to be easier to use for prolonged periods of time. Each solution takes some time to become accustomed to the new device, as many people click a certain way out of habit, but once you are used to the position of the buttons, it is a very quick transition.

Some people think that by simply switching to an ergonomic mouse they can avoid carpal tunnel system. It may also be necessary to change the location of the device. Many people use their mice on top of their desks. This is often too high a position. A better solution is to move the mouse, if there is enough space, to the keyboard tray next to the keyboard.

Another way to reduce the stress on your wrist is with a good mouse pad. This device commonly has a padded support for you to rest your wrist on. Some of the wrist supports are even designed to move around to allow complete freedom of movement by the arm. This prevents the wrist from having to move unnaturally, or from repeatedly making the same motions.

Given the amount of time most of us spend sitting in our jobs and at home, it is not surprising that we put a lot of stress on our lower backs. Sitting in a chair for 8 – 10 hours a day is not natural for our bodies, especially as most people slouch or slump in their seats. An ergonomic office chair can be the easiest solution for those who must sit. These are designed to position the body such that the stress on the lower spine is reduced. Regular seating may not be the most effective for an office, even if it is less expensive or nicer looking, because uncomfortable seating can make it difficult for a worker to focus, especially if they have to keep getting up and stretching to make their back more comfortable, and then find they do not want to sit down again.

An effective workspace with seating that encourages good posture and a strong spine will increase productivity by making it easier for the worker. When designing a workspace, one will want to consider the importance of an ergonomic desk chair. Office seating should also be designed so that it is adjustable for multiple users.

The traditional style of ergonomic office chair is the kneeling stool. This stool is designed to shift the hips forward and thus reduce the pressure on the lower back. These stools gained some popularity among some with back problems. However many still find them uncomfortable and difficult to sit in, or are reluctant to try them because they look unfamiliar. However, once a person becomes accustomed to these stools, they will find their posture improves and, when they get up from having sat and worked all day, their back is not sore.

Many people are awakening to the importance of well-designed workplace furniture that can correctly support and position the human body. Given the amount of time most of us spend sitting in our jobs and at home, it is not surprising that we put a lot of stress on our lower backs. Sitting in a chair for 8 – 10 hours a day is not natural for our bodies, especially as most people slouch or slump in their seats.

When designing a workspace, one will want to consider the importance of a quality seat. Office seating should also be designed so that it is adjustable for multiple users. As everyone has a different body shape, everyone will have a slightly different requirement of their workplace furniture. By choosing adjustable furniture, you can allow each user to set it so that it is most comfortable for them.

The human body is a complicated piece of machinery. It can be truly remarkable in its ability to be manipulated and to perform many tasks. However the body can also break down, both by traumatic injury and by repetitive stress injury. Repetitive stress injury, or RSI, refers to damage to the nerves, muscles and tendons of the body by the repeated application of force. It can also be influenced by awkward positioning. Even people whose job it is to work at a desk all day can damage their bodies if they position themselves poorly. Ergonomic furniture is designed to position the body in such a way as to reduce the potential for repetitive stress injuries.

Ergonomic Workstation

Working at a desk all day can cause a series of problems, including lower back pain, neck pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. The lower back pain is cause by not sitting properly. A necessary piece of ergonomic furniture is a good chair. This should be able to be adjusted for the user so that they can sit with their legs bent at a 90 – 105 degree angle and their feet flat on the ground. When sitting properly in the chair the user’s upper legs should extend two inches at the knee beyond the edge of the seat. And finally the seat should have sufficient lumbar back support. One feature that is nice to have if you are typing is armrests, as it can reduce the strain on your elbows and help keep your shoulder up and prevent you from becoming hunched over.

Besides a chair, the other component of ergonomic computer furniture is the desk. This desk should allow you to arrange the monitor, the mouse and the keyboard in such a way and to reduce the pressure on your wrists and neck. The monitor should be raised up so that the top of the monitor is at eye level. This keeps the head up and prevents pain in the back of the neck. The keyboard should be able to be positioned such that it is at the same level as the user’s elbows. The mouse should also be able to be used at this level. There are several designs of desks and workstations that allow for the proper placement of the keyboard and the monitor.

Many people spend all day working at their PC. An ergonomic computer desk can reduce the stresses places on those who spend hours typing. The best solution if to find something that can be adjusted to the height of the user. People of different sizes need their keyboards and monitors positioned differently for maximum comfort.

You will want to position your monitor at the correct height to reduce the stress on the back of your neck. The monitor should be elevated so that the top of the screen is near eye level. The monitor should be tilted upwards at a slight angle, and should be about 20 inches in front of your face. The monitor should not be placed off to the side. It should be directly above the keyboard. If it is off to the side, you will find that your neck will begin to hurt from keeping it twisted for long periods of time.

The position of the keyboard is important to prevent the occurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome. Without using a keyboard tray, most tables would keep the keyboard too high. This means that your arms and wrists are elevated, and more stress is placed on them. This is also true of the mouse position. Ideally, it should be at the same height as the keyboard, allowing the user to hold their arms level to the ground.

There is such a thing as an ergonomic laptop desk. This is designed to provide enough space to use your notebook computer at the correct height. A regular workstation will not have enough space on the keyboard tray to operate a notebook. Another solution is to use a separate keyboard and purchase a stand for your notebook that will allow it to sit on your workstation at the correct height. A full size keyboard, particularly one that is shaped for comfort, is much easier on your wrists and hands that the notebook’s keyboard.

Perhaps the most innovative solution for your workspace is a completely adjustable workspace. You can get a table whose height can be altered with a crank or pneumatic system. This allows you to set the workstation for whoever is going to be using it that day, and even allows them to use it in either a sitting or a standing position, whichever is more preferable.

Balt ergonomic furniture is designed to adjust to any user. These tables and workstations feature either crank or pneumatic height adjustments. If you are sitting for prolonged periods of time working at a computer, then you know that you can develop pain in your neck, back and arms. By having your workspace correctly adjusted to your body size you can reduce the stresses placed upon it. This can help to relieve the pain that you may be experiencing from repetitive stress injuries.

Balt Laptop Stand

Balt office furniture features many innovations that take them above and beyond traditional workplace furnishing. The height of a Balt desk can easily be adjusted for whatever application it is being used. The crank adjustment system can raise and lower the table top depending on the user’s preference. It is even possible to set the table to be used as both a sitting and a standing workstation. By so changing up your working position, you can avoid remaining in the same posture all day.

Even easier to adjust than the crank systems is the pneumatic adjustment systems. These tables change height at the push of a button. This makes them very suitable for anyone with back pain or who requires changing their workspace several times a day. The pneumatic system is quick and easy, and requires no effort to operate.

Balt Clustable Workstation

Another product of interest is the stand up workstations. These are also adjustable for people of different heights, and provide correct positioning of a computer keyboard and monitor for use while standing. They are useful for factory workers, front office staff and lecturers, and in fact anyone who needs access to a computer on the fly. When you purchase Balt furniture you know you are getting the highest quality equipment available. These unique products push the definitions of what workplace furnishing should be in order to provide more comfort and flexibility. Innovation and workmanship are the two adjectives that best describe these products

Many people spend hours every day typing on their computers while working or at home. This can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a repetitive stress injury where the median nerve in the wrist is compressed. This leads to the sensation of tingling and pain in the hand, and can also cause weakness in the hand. The wrist positions that people use while typing can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome. This is obviously a problem, as evidenced by the number of creams on the market to treat people’s sore wrists. As a solution, several companies have developed an ergonomic keyboard that causes the typist to hold their hands in a more natural position, preventing stress injuries.

There are a number of different designs, and perhaps the most famous ergonomic keyboard design is the one marketed by Microsoft. Here the keys are split up into two groupings, one for each hand. These are angled so that they form a v shape. This angle allows the typist to keep their wrists straight in relation to their arms, making typing for prolonged periods more comfortable. Obviously this arrangement can slow typing speed while the typist becomes accustomed to the shape, the end result will be a more efficient and more comfortable worker, as sore wrists can slow typing as well as being painful.

Another type of computer equipment that were found to cause repetitive stress injuries are mice. These can be very useful, especially while web-browsing, or just in day to day formation of spreadsheets or using design software. However, the angle that the wrist naturally twists at to use this convenience is unnatural. The solution was the design of an ergonomic keyboard mouse. These also serve to adjust the wrist position so that it remains in line with the arm, making it less likely for the wrist to move or twist. Using a mouse once or twice may not seem like your wrist moves enough to be injured, but the same motion repeated can cause injury to the nerves, making it impossible to work until the wrist has healed.

As more and more workplaces require computers, more and more workers need to type regularly as part of their jobs. Along with this increased use of technology, new designs in workstations and office furniture and equipment have followed. An ergonomic computer keyboard has been designed to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.

There are several styles of the ergonomic computer keyboard available on the market today. Microsoft produces a popular design that arranges the keys in a v shape in order to keep the wrists straight. More exotic designs can involve curved surfaces in all three dimensions. There are even devices that resemble a ball with a QWERTY style layout wrapped around it.

It can take some time to get used to an ergonomic computer keyboard. At first, it may not seem natural to use one of these new designs. This may temporarily lower productivity. However, after a period of time, you will find that you are able to continue working comfortably at it for longer that you would be able to at a traditional layout.

Using the computer and surfing on the internet is now a necessity in many jobs, as well as being a great way to spend time, research, or get the news. However, many commonly used software programs, especially web browsers, make extensive use of mice as a primary means of data input. This has lead to many people suffering from repetitive stress injuries caused by the unnatural positioning of the wrist while using these devices. The solution is to use an ergonomic computer mouse that is designed to be used with a more natural wrist and hand position. These encourage the user to move their arm, rather than just twisting or turning the wrist, avoiding repetitive stress injuries.

There are many designs for an ergonomic mouse on the market today. These include simple variations of the traditional design that do not cramp the hand or require the wrist to be bent at awkward angles. Other designs are more unusual, but while they may look odd, your hand will appreciate the decreased stress.

Another way to reduce the stress on your wrist is with an ergonomic mouse pad. This device commonly has a padded support for you to rest your wrist on. Some of the wrist supports are even designed to move around to allow complete freedom of movement by the arm. This prevents the wrist from having to move unnaturally, or from repeatedly making the same motions.

A badly designed workspace can cause repetitive stress injuries to those forced to use it for a prolonged period. An ergonomic workstation can reduce the potential for these injuries and increase worker productivity. When developing such a workspace, there are several factors that should be considered. These include:

Monitor position

Keyboard position

Mouse position

Seating

An ergonomic computer workstation will position your monitor in such a way as to reduce the stress on your neck. The monitor should be elevated from the surface level so that the top of the screen is one to two inches above your eye level. Most people have their monitors too low, which means that they are always looking down. This can cause pain in the back of the neck. Another bad mistake that is often made with the position of the monitor is to place it off to the side, and not directly in front of the keyboard. By doing this your neck is constantly twisted, which can become painful after a period of time.

The position of the keyboard is important to prevent the occurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome. Without using a keyboard tray, most tables would keep the keyboard too high. This means that your arms and wrists are elevated, and more stress is placed on them. This is also true of the mouse position. Ideally, it should be at the same height as the keyboard, allowing the user to hold their arms level to the ground.

In some instances it is beneficial to be able to adjust the height of your working surface. An adjustable table can be set for people of different sizes. It can also be raised or lowered so that it can be used from a sitting or a standing position. By changing the position in which you are working you can allow different parts of your body to support your weight and reduce the potential for repetitive stress injuries.

The seating is an important component of the ergonomic computer desk workstation. A proper chair will reduce the stress on the lower back and encourage good posture. For those who type all day, it is preferred to have a chair with armrests. Hopefully these will be adjustable to suit the user’s body size.

If you suffer from back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome or any other repetitive stress injury, the Ergonomic Back Store has an ergonomic solution to your problems. We carry a wide range of furniture, computer equipment and medical supports that can reduce the pain that you feel and make your work easier.

If you spend all day sitting at a desk working at a computer, you are at risk of suffering from lower back pain as well as pain in the wrists and neck. What you need is to change your chair and desk so that you have a more natural working position. By selecting a chair with adjustable height, armrests and possibly a headrest, you can encourage good posture and reduce the strain on your lower back. A good rule is that the height of the seat should be one quarter the height of the user. There is some variation to this rule, as not everyone has the same leg to torso ratio. The desk should position the monitor directly above the keyboard with the top of the screen just above your eye level. A monitor stand can help you accomplish this. The keyboard should be lower than a typical desk top – the use of a keyboard tray is highly recommended. And finally, the resources and binders that you use frequently should be placed within easy reach, to prevent the twisting and stretching you might do to reach them.

Another ergonomic office solution is to replace your keyboard and mouse with ones designed for comfort. These keyboards typically do not arrange the keys in rigid rows like a traditional keyboard, but instead arrange them in a v shape. This prevents the wrists from bending to the sides during typing.

Other equipment that may prove beneficial to you includes a foot rest, or something from our wide selection of wrist, elbow and back supports. What you need is the equipment to alter or redistribue the stresses you experience every day. Over time these forces can cause tendinitis and muscle pain.

A notebook computer is typically designed to be as small as possible. Unfortunately this often means that they become very uncomfortable after prolonged usage. Also, because most people use their notebooks directly on a table or desk, they tend to have the keys too high. This causes stress on the wrists and hands that can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. As well, the screen is always lower than the optimal position, causing the user to constantly have their head bent forwards, straining the muscles in the back of the neck.

Ergonomic Pen

While nobody has designed an ergonomic laptop, there are several solutions that can reduce the discomfort of using a laptop. The first is to use a suitable base station. There are several variations of an ergonomic laptop stand that can be used to raise and position the screen to an optimal angle. What you want is the ability to position your notebook as you would a dektop PC, while at the same time retain the portability that was probably the reason you got the notebook in the first place.

A key component of your base station will be an ergonomic laptop keyboard, which is just a more portable version of a full size natural device. This can be left at the base station or taken with you.

There are desks that have been designed with notebook computers in mind. These typically have a lower work surface. Regulary computer desks do not usually have enough space on their trays to support a notebook. The best solution is often a desk with an adjustable surface height. This can be lowered to the prime notebook operating height, or raised to be used as a writing surface.

So while there is no such thing as a completely ergonomic laptop, there are things you can do to make it more comfortable to use your notebook for prolonged periods of time. This may not help you if you plan on working for six hours on that flight to London, but it can make your notebook a more practical option for everyday use.
